James Watkins is a nationally recognized, phenominal potter.  We are so lucky to have him visiting The Fired Arts Academy!

The focus of this workshop will be “alternative firing techniques “. Participants will be challenged to address technical issues involved in throwing large scale works. The workshop will include demonstrations that will include large platters, double walled vessels, and other techniques used in producing large scale works. Participants will be encouraged to practice and explore these techniques. The second part of the workshop will include glazing and firing techniques  as illustrated from my book "Alternative Kilns & Firing Techniques". which would include fuming, Raku and saggar firing in a metal container. Surface decoration will also be discussed. Participants are encouraged to bring 4 or 5 bisqued pieces to participate in the firings.

All materials are included in this course.  Student's should bring bisque fired pieces to participate in the firings, however some pieces will be available if none can be provided.  This class is Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 9:30am to approximately 5:00 pm.  Lunch will be provided.  Please advise us at least 2 weeks in advance if you have any special dietary needs.  Call Jennifer at 863-648-0585 for help finding a great hotel in the area, or with any other questions about your stay.
