The Bonnie Glo line of kilns is designed for artists who need to fire multiple times a day, especially busy teachers and studios. These lightweight, all-fiber kilns are perfect for those with daytime jobs, allowing you to start a firing session after work, finish it by bedtime, and let it cool overnight. Pendants, for example, can be fired in under an hour.
The original Bonnie Glo is a unique, portable kiln (weighing only 28 lbs) and is our most lightweight teaching kiln. Compared to brick kilns of similar dimensions (which typically weigh 60 lbs or more), the Bonnie Glo’s lightweight design makes it ideal for artisans on the go. The kiln also includes a Furniture Kit with an all-fiber shelf that sits flat on the kiln floor and kiln wash.
Made from rigid fiber materials, these kilns are pure insulation, unlike traditional brick kilns that absorb a great deal of heat. This ensures that only the glass heats up. Without a brick body and clay shelves, the Bonnie Glo fires quickly to fuse temperatures and cools down rapidly, enabling 2–3 firings per day. There's no need for shelves—simply apply kiln wash to the kiln floor and fire directly on fiber shelf paper. For additional flexibility, an optional fiber shelf can sit directly on the floor, but remember to use kiln wash and fiber shelf paper each time.
These kilns are named in honor of the late Bonnie Glotfelty, mother of Mike and Randy, owners of Jen-Ken Kilns. Bonnie’s incredible dedication and support of the fired arts industry since the late 1960s make this kiln a fitting tribute to her legacy.
