The Double Wall (DW) Crucible kiln is designed for melting and working with cullet, offering precise temperature control for efficient glassworking from melting to shaping. It reaches a maximum temperature of 2300°F to efficiently melt cullet, then cools to 1800°F for controlled glass squeezing.
For gathering, the kiln maintains a working range of 2050°F to 2100°F, ensuring optimal consistency. Between sessions, it holds at 1800°F until it's time to ramp back up to the gathering temperature.
It includes solid-state relays for precise and reliable temperature control, a kiln shelf for convenient firing, a kiln stand that provides a sturdy base for safe and reliable use, and a manual with clear instructions for easy setup and operation.
Unlike our other crucible kilns, this kiln features a double-wall design, providing enhanced insulation and energy efficiency. The additional layer of insulation improves heat retention, ensures more even heat distribution, and keeps the kiln’s exterior cooler to the touch. This design also contributes to greater durability and longevity compared to single-wall crucible kilns. The improved heat retention and even heat distribution result in more efficient firings, while the cooler exterior provides added safety during operation. The double-wall design also enhances the kiln's durability, extending its lifespan when compared to single-wall models.
NOTE: Electric Crucible Kilns are specifically designed for melting cullet and are not suitable for making glass from batch, as the caustic fumes produced can rapidly deteriorate the thermocouple and kiln brick. Coils typically last three to six months in crucible kilns and are not covered under warranty.
